Palmetto Bay has a superior quality of life in a unique hometown atmosphere, yet it's residents enjoy the "Big City" amenities of nearby Miami. It is an area of natural beauty with most of the homes with big yards and there is lots of trees, parks, and a minimum amount of thru-traffic. Area schools are rated among the best in the county and nearby are Miami Dade Community College, Florida International University, and University of Miami On September 10, 2002, the Village became officially incorporated.
The Village is bounded on the north by S.W. 136th Street, on the south
by S.W. 184th Street, on the west by the central commercial corridor of
U.S.1, and on the east by Biscayne Bay. The 24,000 + citizens now enjoy
the extra police protection, parks improvements, and enhanced public works
that cityhood has brought. Constructive changes in the aesthetics of street
maintenance, swales, and signage are currently in the works.
